All About NATA
National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) is being conducted by COA since 2006, in terms of the provisions of CoA (Minimum Standards of Architectural Education) Regulations, 1983, published in the Gazette of India. It is implied that a separate aptitude test in Architecture should be conducted and such test should not be combined with the tests for admissions to Engineering, Pharmacy, Medicine and other disciplines. Being the competent authority for fixing norms and standards for architectural institutions, COA has the necessary expertise to hold a Common Aptitude Test in Architecture, at the national level to provide a single-window system for appearing in the aptitude test and to facilitate institutions, students and public at large for admission to First year of 5 year B.Arch. Degree Course at all recognized Institutions all over country.
Mode of Exam: The Part A of NATA is Online and Part B is an Offline.
Duration: 3 hours.
Type of Question: Multiple Choice Questions or MCQ will be asked from Mathematics & General Aptitude.
No. of Questions: Total 60 + 2 questions.
Total Marks: The question paper will contain weightage of 200 marks.
Marking Scheme: For each correct answer, candidates will be rewarded with 2 marks in Mathematics and General Aptitude test.
Negative Marking: No marks will be deducted for incorrect answer in NATA.
Subjects: The question paper will contain three sections, i.e. Mathematics, Drawing and General Aptitude.
Qualifying Marks: Secure minimum 25% marks in MCQ portion (30 out of 120) & 25% marks in drawing portion (20 out of 80).
PART A: NATA 2018 Mathematics and General Aptitude Test
This Phase of exam will consist of the Aesthetic Sensitivity Test, a computer based exam or OMR based (offline) and multiple choice questions or MCQ. This phase will be of 90 minutes’ duration with a total of 60 MCQ (30 from each section). Candidates will be given only 60-90 seconds for answering each question. The level of difficulty may increase with the number of correct attempts made by the candidates. No negative marking will be there in the exam and the questions raised would be based on the imagination, perception, creativity, observation, communication and architectural awareness of the candidates.
PART B: NATA 2018 Drawing Test
This drawing test needs to be attempted for last 90 minutes where, candidates will be required to attempt a total number of 2 questions. There will be two sub-questions in each question which will be required to be attempted by using a paper and pencil only.

Ques. How many questions I have to attempt in Drawing test?
Ans. There will be two questions of 40 marks each. Candidates have to attempt this section in offline mode.
Ques. What is Aesthetic Sensitivity Test? What will be the mode of this paper?
Ans. Aesthetic Sensitivity Test is an offline test where candidate is given 1 hour to attempt 40 questions. The marks are awarded if candidate has answered the question preceding the present question correctly. From last year, CoA has announced that it will be conducted in online mode.

Ques. Will my marks be deducted for a wrong attempt?
Ans. No, There is no negative marking applicable in NATA exam 2018.
Ques. Can you tell me about types of questions asked in Drawing test?
Ans. Perspective drawing – One point, two points and Three Points, Memory drawing, Correct Proportions and Pencil Rendering are the types of question one has to attempt in Drawing test.
Ques. Is there any fixed syllabus for NATA?
Ans. No, there is no official syllabus release by the authorities. However, candidates are advised to take help of previous year question papers to get an idea about the type of questions asked in the exam.
Ques. Do all the questions in Drawing hold equal weightage?
Ans. No, the first questions hold the maximum weightage i.e. 50 marks, second and third question are of 25 marks each
Ques. I have heard that if there is a tie between 2 candidates then negative marking will be applicable. Is that true?
Ans. Yes, if the score of both the candidates in MCQ section will be equal then their wrong attempts will be taken into account.
Ques. In Drawing test, can I use measuring instruments such as scale, compass etc?
Ans. No, the candidates have to attempt the questions in free hand. You are not allowed to use scale or any other measuring instrument.
Ques. I belong to PwD category, will I be given some extra time to complete the paper?
Ans. No, there will be no extra time for PwD candidates. All the candidates have to complete the exam in 90 minutes.
Ques. Can I appear for NATA 2018 in my native language?
Ans. No, the language of question paper will be English only.
